Meet Molly.

She’s a grey speckled pony who
was abandoned by her owners when Hurricane
Katrina hit southern Louisiana . She spent weeks
on her own before finally being rescued and taken
to a farm where abandoned animals were stockpiled..
while there, she was attacked by a pit bull terrier
and almost died. Her gnawed right front leg became
infected, and her vet went to LSU for help, but
LSU was overwhelmed, and this pony was a welfare
case. You know how that goes.

The right horse and the right owner,’
Moore insists. Molly happened to be a
one-in-a-million patient.
She’s tough as nails, but sweet, and she was willing to cope with pain.
She made it obvious she understood that she was
in trouble. The other important factor, according
to Moore , is having a truly committed and compliant
owner who is dedicated to providing the daily care
required over the lifetime of the horse.

Molly’s story turns into a parable for life in
Post-Katrina Louisiana ….
The little pony gained weight, and her mane finally felt a comb.
A human prosthesis designer built her a leg.

The prosthetic has given Molly a whole new life,
Allison Barca DVM, Molly’s regular vet, reports.

And she asks for it. She will put her little li mb out,
and come to you and let you know that she wants
you to put it on. Sometimes she wants you to take
it off too. And sometimes, Molly gets away from
Barca. ‘It can be pretty bad when you can’t catch
a three-legged horse,’ she laughs.

Most important of all, Molly has a job now. Kay,
the rescue farm owner, started taking Molly to
shelters, hospitals, nursing homes, and rehabilitation
centers. Anywhere she thought that people needed
hope. Wherever Molly went, she showed people
her pluck. She inspired people, and she had a
good time doing it.

‘It’s obvious to me that Molly had a bigger role to
play in life, Moore said. She survived the hurricane,
she survived a horrible injury, and now she is giving
hope to others.’
Barca concluded, ‘She’s not back to normal, but
she’s going to be better…To me, she could be a
symbol for New Orleans itself.’

This is Molly’s most recent prosthesis. The bottom
photo shows the ground surface that she stands on,
which has a smiley face embossed in it.. Wherever
Molly goes, she leaves a smiley hoof print behind.

Animal Cruelty in Suwannee County, Florida

As we all know horse neglect is at an all time high due to the state of the economy. But for some it has been that way for a long time. Too Long.  

Problems exist in the area I live, Suwannee County, Florida and I feel it is my duty to be the voice that helps to create change for the beautiful creatures I have come to love so dearly, horses. I feel very strongly about taking a stand for helping horses

I live in a small country town. We have a lot and I mean a lot of animal neglect that just gets swept under the rug. I thought that the law was the law and everyone had to follow to it. No if and or buts. But I was wrong.

It seems that if you know the right people or our number one law man, the Sheriff likes you then nothing gets done. He is an elected official and wants the votes.

Now I know I am only 16 but I have studied the law and understand it perfectly.

I researched the “Florida Cruelty to Animals Statutes” especially, 828.12. Cruelty to animals and 828.13. Confinement of animals without sufficient food, water, or exercise; abandonment of animals, that helped me understand the current laws so I can better help the horses.

The definition that the statutes puts horses under states they are an ”animal”  that shall be held to include every living dumb creature.

Now I know very good and well the animals are not dumb. Equines have proven that they aren’t dumb in the work they do with the children in Drop Your Reins and other equine assisted modalities.

Equines are very smart and have huge hearts. They feel just like any human does. Horses have souls and spirits. They have been my teacher and have helped lead me through the tough times in my life. So now it is my turn to help them.

Horses are considered property and have no more rights that a couch or a chair.

It clearly states:

828.12. Cruelty to animals

(1) A person who unnecessarily overloads, overdrives, torments, deprives of necessary sustenance or shelter, or unnecessarily mutilates, or kills any animal, or causes the same to be done, or carries in or upon any vehicle, or otherwise, any animal in a cruel or inhumane manner, is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or by a fine of not more than $5,000, or both.

828.13. Confinement of animals without sufficient food, water, or exercise; abandonment of animals

(1) As used in this section:

(a) “Abandon” means to forsake an animal entirely or to neglect or refuse to provide or perform the legal obligations for care and support of an animal by its owner.

(b) “Owner” includes any owner, custodian, or other person in charge of an animal.

(2) Whoever:

(a) Impounds or confines any animal in any place and fails to supply the animal during such confinement with a sufficient quantity of good and wholesome food and water,

(c) Abandons to die any animal that is maimed, sick, infirm, or diseased,

is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or by a fine of not more than $5,000, or by both imprisonment and a fine.

(3) Any person who is the owner or possessor, or has charge or custody, of any animal who abandons such animal to suffer injury or malnutrition or abandons any animal in a street, road, or public place without providing for the care, sustenance, protection, and shelter of such animal is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or by a fine of not more than $5,000, or by both imprisonment and a fine.

What are the adults of this world teaching the youth? My question is, ”How come the law turns it’s cheek and puts up with animal neglect, abuse and cruelty continually when it is found, and nothing is done to the perpetrators.

A friend of mine and I noticed a few local horses that were in desperate need of help. There were 12 horses living on the property and were in poor condition. There was also one foal, and two mares that were found dead.They hadn’t died from natural causes or humane euthanasia preformed. One mare was climbing what we call a gorge on the property and was to weak from malnutrition to make it she fell and broke her leg and starved to death. The other mare was about two years old an she was malnourished and she just lied down and passed. The foal wasn’t able to get the nutrition she needed from the time she was in the womb. She was born premature but still lived. She died from starvation as her mother wasn’t able to provide her with what she needed.

There were also tons of horse bones and skulls all over the property. Some skulls still had halters on them. Seeing things like this makes me sick. My heart aches for all the horses that have lost their life just because someone didn’t care.

After months of fighting we were able to rescue 11 of the horses. The man signed them over to the our local animal control on one condition, that he was able to keep one of them. He chose one of the fatter paint stallions we call Jake. It drove me crazy that we had to leave him there. As we were loading up the others he was begging us to take him too. Watching him broke everyone’s heart. But we had to leave him. I made myself a promise that one day I would rescue him too.

The part that is really wrong out of all of this is that the man faced no punishment for his actions. He never even had a court hearing and right after we rescued the 11 horses he purchased 3 more. When all of this was going on it was election time in our county and our sheriff was hoping to stay in office. The man that neglected the horse would be able to help increase the sheriffs polls so the sheriff didn’t want to make him mad. Our sheriff just turned his shoulder to the problem and wouldn’t do anything to help us rescue the horses.

Now if anyone ever tells you that because your young no one will listen to you they are wrong. Candice and I started calling every rescue and horse lover around. Mind you at the time I was 15 and she was 16. Farms, rescues and horse lovers in general started applying pressure on the sheriff. And finally the man signed them over.

There its already another horse that has been found dead and we need to rescue the three others before something happens to them too.

When my daughter, Danielle Herb became interested in horses and natural horsemanship, I noticed many similarities with my skills as a Life Coach.

Yesterday my while Danielle was playing with one of her horses, a very comical young 4 year old character named Spirit, my husband and I were observing them.  She began working with him in the round pen and after a few minutes she came out and began asking him to go over some jumps while still on a lead line.

Give Clear Communication

As she has established clearly what she was asking him to do, she removed the lead and began playing with him freely in an open field. They were communicating effortlessly and as Danielle would move in one direction so would Spirit.

As she continued playing with him he changed his mind and decided to leave the game. He ran off to get a drink of water.

Today was interesting on our Master Mind call as we all were sharing. It is without fail that something happens either on the call or in the hours following and today was surely one that I want to share with you the message I received.

Danielle Herb has been sick recently and in tremendous pain. I took her to the emergency room to have her looked at and make sure there was not something wrong that needed to be operated on or tended to with western medicine.

Many illnesses manifest by our thoughts or actions and until they themselves are changes the illness is still there. Traditional medicine will only mask the symptoms that are surfacing.

Danielle has had times in her life that had a similar theme, with one being when she was thought to be an ADHD kid.

When Danielle was 5 years old she was thought to have ADHD so by the persistent pressure from teachers, friends and family, I took my little girl to the doctor to have the outward manifestation diagnosed.  They labeled her all right and then wanted me to begin medicating her. She was labeled as if there was something wrong with her but that did not FEEL right to me.

I began a quest to find what Danielle needed.

When something does not FEEL right, I begin listening to my intuition and asking question to seek the deeper meaning of the illness.

As a parent I have found that I do not have the answers and nor does anyone else. Danielle knows what she needs and what I try to do is seek to ask and understand.

Years ago when I assisted an entire community’s healing after a teen had shot and killed a teacher on the last day of school, a fellow coach and myself developed a system for healing called ALL.

Using this system helps me to see to understand and open my awareness for what I can learn. It helps me to see how to help Danielle heal and supply her with those things.

Need to BE Like Everyone Else

Being a teen today is not easy and especially if you are a very consciously awake and aware 16 year old like Danielle. She is very misunderstood by her peers and hard for her to fit in. She is more knowing and spiritually awake than most adults and she finds it lonely within her age group.

Recently as she is healing herself and asking for guidance to finding what her body and mind needs, her friends keep applying the same type of pressures we felt when she was a young child. It feels like a underlying pressure to conform and just do what others find as the easiest path to getting better.

Standing in Two Worlds

Have you ever felt lonely in a room full of people?

I have.

You may have somethings in common with the people in your life, perhaps horses or you are the same age, but you just feel so misunderstood when it comes to the way you live and the fundamental truths that you live by, that you feel so alone. You might begin to want to be like the rest of the people because you it feels lonely until others begin to open up and become more connected to you and your world. People will either begin to resonate with you or they will fall away.

Holding the Space for Others

Danielle was expressing that she was tired and it felt so lonely on our call today. It was hard for her to be pressured all the time by her friends to do what they do to heal, which is go to the doctor and do what the doctors say.

It takes a special person to stand strong and hold the space for others to GROW and Danielle is doing just that. .

Danielle is just that special person and her friends will thank her someday when they realize the sacrifices she has made to be a leader ushering in new levels of awareness.

She is beautiful and shares her love and joy with others so freely.

Watch this video and embrace what it takes to be different.  Sometime it takes standing out in a crowd, BEING yourself  for a long time. It might get you plenty of stares and people snickering at you, but look what happens in the end when you are coming from your heart and sharing your light.

I wanted to post something this morning for those of you wondering what is happening with Danielle Herb and Drop Your Reins programs as we near the years end.

Danielle has been sick and to the emergency room twice with pain in her abdominal area. The doctors have been unable to exactly diagnose it and want to run more tests. They ruled out appendix and female troubles.

We are thinking that it is localized in her ascending colon as whenever she eats she is in great pain. She is weak and tired all the time.

She has not felt like spending time with her horses and Scribbles (Danielle’s Paint Mare) is showing some of the same signs as Danielle. She is not eating much and seems depressed.

I will keep you posted and thank you for all your love and prayers. Please continue as she feels the love that you send her way.

Danielle working with Halo along with her friend Candace. Candace is on the ground and Danielle is riding bareback working with Halo using Natural Horsemanship. Danielle was saying in the video that she likes to work with young and green horses on the ground and under saddle first to help build their confidence.

This was Halo’s first time ever cantering with someone riding him. He did excellent with their assistance and why wouldn’t he with not one but two beautiful girls praising him. He had it made.

Danielle is working to build a strong foundation for Halo so he can continue to shine and glow as he does so well. They hope to enter a Palomino show in December together.

AM Golden Striker was first rescued bt Debbie Manser on October 12, 2009 and on October 28, 2009 he was adopted by the Roth Family. He is an amazing young 2 year old Belgian that will steal your heart. Watch the video and allow the love to flow to you.
